DOK 2024: Brda Wines Cast Their Spell Once Again
In the sunny Brda region, we immersed ourselves in the magic of wine culture during the Open Wine Cellar Days – DOK Brda, on June 15th and 16th. This year, visitors had the opportunity to explore 36 wine cellars. The picturesque wine-growing region has proven once again to be a paradise for lovers of high-quality wines and fascinating stories.
Thank you to everyone who shared their wonderful impressions with us!
We are thrilled that you are already eager to meet again in Brda next year.
During the third weekend of June, visitors of Brda dove into a world of extraordinary aromas and flavors amidst picturesque vineyards, guided by the hospitality of the locals. At the event, Open Wine Cellar Days – DOK 2024, visitors explored the cellars, vineyards, homesteads, and estates of 36 winemakers, each offering a unique experience. The winemakers presented various vintages and wine varieties, shared their intriguing stories, and captivated guests with their passion and dedication to this demanding profession.
Guests enjoyed numerous unforgettable experiences, including guided cellar tours, vineyard walks, and engaging conversations with winemakers and their family members,
said Dani Strehar, representative of the organizing team, Kontrabant.
DOK Brda is also a special celebration for the families involved, who gather this weekend to proudly represent their wine brands. From the youngest members, sometimes just a few years old, to the grandmothers and grandfathers, this adds a special touch of homey atmosphere to the event. The tastings offered a sensory journey through the flavors and aromas that define Brda wines, from the typical Rebula to various white and red varieties. Sparkling wines and local delicacies were also available at many of the stops.
It was wonderful to see visitors of all ages and backgrounds, all united by a love for wine and nature. This year, a significant number of young people impressed with their wine knowledge and enjoyment of the tastings, indicating a growing wine culture and awareness of the importance of quality and responsible consumption:
My boyfriend and I are here for the first time. His parents are big wine enthusiasts and kind of got us into it… We’re having a great time; Brda has excellent wines, the atmosphere is fantastic, and the winemakers are very friendly. We will definitely return!
The event was also an opportunity for larger groups to gather; some even arrived in mini-buses! Celebrations such as bachelorette parties, bachelor parties, and anniversaries were enjoyed by many. Electric bike riders also enjoyed the beautiful nature and views while stopping at select wine cellars:
We primarily chose this for recreation and stunning views. Of course, a bit of excitement, socializing, and wine education never hurts. So, we combined the pleasant with the useful. We’re having a great time!”
We are especially thrilled that so many of you return to this event every year, even from abroad! A group from England shared that this is one of the best events they attend annually for the past five years:
We hire a driver and set off to explore Brda. Some of us come every year, while others join us for the first time. Everyone falls in love with this region and Slovenia, so we easily fill the van each year.
Did We Have a Great Time or What?

Charity Auction Raises €6,000
The wines donated for the auction were adorned with unique labels painted specifically for this event by artists from the Art Circle festival, hailing from various countries. Each wine label was thus an original, unique piece of art. The works created during the festival make a significant contribution to the cultural offerings of the region by connecting the international scene with our local environment. Klemen Brun of Art Circle said,
Wine labels are one form of expression where impressions and experiences intertwine and connect, which are the main guidelines for creating cultural content at the ART CIRCLE International festival.
The online auction was active until June 10th, with funds also raised through other means thereafter. Both winemakers and members of the Rotary Club Medana-Goriška contributed to the effort.
Through the auction and other sources, we raised a total of €6,000, all of which will be donated to children,
said Robert Feri, representative of the Rotary Club Medana-Goriška.
All proceeds will go to children aged 8 to 12, enabling them to spend a week of active holidays at Debeli Rtič in Ankaran. Together with a team of experts and special guest, psychologist and former Olympian Sara Isaković, a program was created to help children overcome fears, self-esteem issues, and personal challenges that hinder their satisfaction and success.
We are delighted to announce that our charity mission was once again successful! We are also thrilled with another outstanding edition of DOK,
said Dani Strehar, the main Kontrabantar.
